Diane Marie Stears

Diane Marie Stears (Lane), age 79, of Hartfield, Virginia, passed away on December 4, 2024, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital.
She was born on February 10, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan.Diane was the devoted wife of Howard Stears, with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage. Together, they raised four 4 children: Kenneth Stears (Marc), Cheryl Coyne (Marty), Christine Stears and Steven Stears (Dorothy). Diane was also the proud grandmother of four grandsons: Kyle Stears, Matthew and Zachary Coyne, and Breyden Ness.
In addition to her husband, children, and grandsons, Diane is survived by many beloved family members and friends. She was predeceased by each of her 5 siblings as well as her son, Steven Stears.
Diane was a kind and generous soul, whose heart was as big as her hospitality. Her home was always open, providing a safe and welcoming place for anyone in need. Whether it was a brief visit or a long stay, Diane treated everyone like family and cared for them as her own. She loved playing bingo, slot machines, and 3-card poker, was an avid reader, and took great joy in crocheting.
Diane was also an organ donor, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassion. Her selflessness in life continues through the gift of life to others.
A celebration of Diane's life will be scheduled at a later date in Michigan, where she will be remembered and celebrated by those who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, Diane's family requests that donations be made in her name to two organizations with missions that were important to her: The Homeless Action Network of Detroit (www.handetroit.org/donate) and Hands Across Middlesex (www.handsacrossmiddlesex.org/donate). These contributions will honor her lifelong commitment to helping those in need.
Diane will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her memory and her kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
