Diane Gail Tippett Thompson, 78, of Morehead City, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2025, surrounded by her family.
A graveside service to honor Diane will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 30th, at Greenwood Cemetery in Morehead City.
Diane was born on July 22, 1947, to the late Harold Warren Tippett, Sr. and the late Edith Hill Tippett of Morehead City, she was the eldest of two children.
Diane’s greatest joy was her family, but mostly her grandchildren. As a member of First Free Will Baptist of Morehead City, she sang in the church choir for many years and always looked forward to singing the Christmas and Easter cantatas. She loved all things Christmas and, without hesitation, always reminded everyone of the true reason for the season.
During most days of the week, you could find Diane front and center of Morehead City Drug, where she was a dedicated employee for 19 years. Although she was born and raised on the coast, her heart was always in the mountains, where she hoped to see snow. Diane will forever be lovingly remembered for her quick wit, tiny but mighty stature, and selfless nature towards all around her.
Diane is survived by her husband of 61 years, Garland D. Thompson, Sr.; daughter, Traci Sokolosky and husband, Wade; sons, Garland “Boog” Thompson, Jr. and wife, Caron and Mical Tippett Thompson and wife, Wendy; four grandchildren, LTC Johnny Wade Sokolosky, Jr., Karmen Sokolosky Harris, Kaley Morgan Thompson, and Samuel Drew Ballou; and twelve great-grandchildren, Jack, Savannah, Alyssa, Chloe, Maeve, Rosie, Cormac, Ashlyn, John Luke, Emily, Charlotte, and Eliza.
In addition to her parents, Diane was preceded in death by her brother, Harold “Junior” Warren Tippett, Jr. and grandson, Darious Parker Ballou.
