Diane Kay (Johnson) Whitmire
Diane Kay (Johnson) Whitmire, 76, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away September 10, 2025. She was born May 24, 1949, in Napoleon, Ohio, to George and Virginia (Teeters) Johnson. She graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1967, where she was active in band and Future Homemakers of America. Her senior year she received FHA's highest state award when she received her State Homemakers Degree.
She married the love of her life and best friend, Duane, on June 8, 1968, in Liberty Center. They are the parents of three sons, David (Annie), of Holland, Ohio; Douglas (Jessica), of Chicago, Illinois; and Daniel (Kelli), of Northville, Michigan. During the years the boys were in school she enjoyed attending many of their activities and never missed a football, basketball or baseball game. She continued attending athletic events as David and Daniel both have become coaches themselves. She loved going to Chicago to visit Doug and Jessica, and was always interested in what was going on in the news in Chicago and would watch the ABC news on the computer on a daily basis. She was proud of Doug for his accomplishments in broadcasting and his many Emmy's he has won throughout his career. Duane and Diane were both avid Falcon fans throughout the years. They loved attending football, women's basketball games and enjoyed Falcon baseball when Dave coached at BGSU as well.
She enjoyed her grandchildren, Tanner, Camren, Cale, Tate, Caden, Colton, Carson, Caitlin, Jack and Grace, and loved watching all of their activities and sporting events.
She began her secretarial career at BGSU on June 1, 1967, at WBGU-TV. During her years at BGSU she worked in the Public Relations office for 14 years, and then finished her 35-year career in the Faculty Senate Office. She retired on January 31, 2005. One of her most memoriable accomplishments was being awarded a 2002 Honorary Alumnus Award for her contributions to BGSU through the years. This was truly the highlight of her career.
She enjoyed her life and most important to her were Duane, her children, and her grandchildren. Together she and Duane enjoyed traveling to Florida every winter where they spent much of their time in the Orlando area Disney Vacation Club Resorts. She was an avid Disney fan and loved spending time there. They also enjoyed taking many cruises (mostly Disney) throughout their retirement.
Diane and Duane were very active in Waterside, a retirement community in Monclova Township that they moved to in 2011. They enjoyed biking the trails, playing pickle ball and meeting new friends throughout the years.
She loved life and will be missed by her family and friends, and will be remembered for all the good things she did for her children and grandchildren.
Along with her children and grandchildren, Diane is survived by her brother, Douglas Johnson, of Bryan, Ohio; sister, Debra Glanz, of Liberty Center, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
