Richard Carl Allmon was born on August 28, 1939, outside of Missouri Valley, Iowa, to Max and Dorothy (Deal) Allmon. He grew up in Missouri Valley and the surrounding towns and attended school in Missouri Valley, graduating in the class of 1957. Dick spent his life farming as well as working in the carpentry and cement trades. He proudly served his country in the United Stated Army Reserves. Dick was united in marriage to Maxine Switzer on January 8, 1966, at the Benson Christian Church. He and Maxine are long time members of the Saved By Grace Church in Dunlap, Iowa.
Dick had an extraordinary love for the outdoors and spent countless hours fishing and hunting. Beyond his love for the outdoors, he had an avid interest in gardening. Woodworking held a special place in Dick's heart as he crafted various masterpieces over the years. Known as an avid tinkerer, he loved taking apart gadgets and machinery just to put them back together again – often improving them along the way. But above all else, Dick valued family above everything else in life. Spending quality time with loved ones, especially his four grandchildren, brought him the greatest happiness.
Dick died on Monday, July 24, 2023, at his home outside of Dunlap at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 26 days.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Patty, as an infant, Bob, Dennis, Jerry and Mike. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Maxine of Dunlap; daughters, Sarah (Nate) Mongan of Mead, Nebraska and Alice (Scott) Manhart of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Aidan Mongan, Cade Mongan, Lydia Manhart and Mary Manhart; siblings, Liz (Alan) Neese of Omaha, Nebraska, Mary Arp of Omaha, Judy (Don) Fox of Spokane, Washington, Cliff (Anita) Allmon of Woodbine, Iowa, Chuck (Cindy) Allmon of Harlan, Iowa, Dean (Judy) Allmon of Manilla, Iowa and Tom (Vicky) Allmon of Mondamin, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
