Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel - McCookRichard “Dick” Collicott was born December 3, 1948 to Earle and Alice (Jurgensen) Collicott. He attended school in Cambridge from fourth grade through high school. During these years, he won a spelling bee, was a boy scout, played school sports, and baseball every summer. He would say he couldn’t hit worth a hoot, but he was fast.
A few years later, in 1970, he was drafted into the Vietnam War where he worked as a lineman and reached expert level with an M16 rifle. Then in 1972 he was honorably discharged. Dick was always proud to be a veteran.
Dick was somewhat of a daredevil. His hobbies included skydiving, bull riding, and racecar driving. Then there were the calmer ones, such as fishing. He did love to bass fish. Dick was a pretty quiet guy, but those that knew him knew he had a great sense of humor. He was proud to be meticulous and felt anything worth doing was worth doing right. It showed in the carpentry work that he did for many years and in his taxidermy work until he retired.
Dick and Jeri were married in 1989, and the next 37 years seem to have flown by. Dick’s pride and joy were his kids. He loved spending time with them. It didn’t ever matter what they were doing.
Those left to celebrate his life include his wife, Jeri. Three kids of which Dick could not have been more proud: two sons that were his fishing buddies and could literally make Dick laugh until tears rolled down his cheeks, all the while still trying to breathe. What a gift! - Wes Collicott and Clint Collicott. One daughter that has a bit of that daredevil in her. She’s always razzed her brothers with the notion that she and her dad secretly knew she was always the favorite; this being while Dick sat across the room with a grin on his face not saying a word - Kelsey Brown. Daughter-in-Law, Heather Collicott and Son-in-Law, Tyler Brown fit in this small clan perfectly, bringing love and laughter with them. Five grandkids he shined over, watching them grow and proud to get to know - Taye, Kirstin, and Jalen Collicott, Jackson and Sophie Brown. Also son, Gordon and family, and daughter, Melissa and family. Sisters - Shirley Wolfe and Carol Stecker. Brothers-in-law - Dex Potter, Bill Davis, Steve Messersmith, and Robert Stecker. Sisters-in-law - Claudia Potter, Trish Sanchell, and Paula Davis. And many wonderful nieces and nephews he was blessed by.
Those not to be forgotten are Dick’s dad, Earle and mom, Alice. Sister, Bonnie. Baby brother, Harlan. In-laws and friends: Beth Messersmith, Marvin, René, and Amanda Dye, Dan Wolfe
Dick was surrounded by the love of his family when he passed away at his home on Sunday morning, March 29, 2026. He was 77 years of age.
There will be a “Celebration of Life” reception for Dick on Saturday, April 11th from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM at the McCook Senior Center (1312 W 5th St). All family and friends are invited. Please come relaxed and ready to remember a life well lived. Eat, enjoy, and visit. We look forward to hearing the memories and stories of those who knew and loved Dick.
