Richard Ross (Dick) Radliff, a third-generation, lifetime resident of
Hood River, OR., passed away on August 27, 2024, at Providence Portland Medical Center following a valiant battle with cancer.
Dick was a "war child" who first saw the light of day in Lawton, Oklahoma on June 21, 1944 when his parents, Richard Allen Radliff, and Dorothy Evans Radliff, were living on the Army base at Ft. Sill,Oklahoma. Following Dicks Fathers' service in the European theater, the young Radliff family reestablished their home in Hood River on Barrett Drive.
Dick spent his youth in Hood River, living and working at Radliff and Son Orchard with his father and grandfather, Archie Radliff. He attended school at Barrett Elementary, Mid Valley Jr. High, and WyEast High School, where he graduated in 1962. Dick attended the Valley Christian Church with his family, was active in Sunday school, Cub Scouts, and 4-H Entomology. Dick played the flute in his school band, sang in the school chorus, was a varsity letterman in football, ran the 440 in track, became a crack-shot marksman at the Hood River Gun Club, as well as an excellent skier at Cooper Spur Ski Area.
After graduating from High School, Dick attended college at Eastern Oregon College (now University) in LaGrande, Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, and Multnomah College in Portland, where he focused on Mechanics and Science. Dicks higher education was peppered with intermittent work on the family farm in Hood River with his brother, Doug, and sister, Laurie.
Dick worked over twenty years at what later became Radliff Orchards,Inc. and founded Westside Pipe and Irrigation in the late 1970's. Dick was a volunteer fireman with the Westside Fire department and a member of the Ski Patrol at Cooper Spur Ski Area. He also enjoyed windsurfing, hunting, and fishing.
Dick married Eileen Christensen in 1963, and had one son, Jeff, in 1964,divorcing in 1968.
In 1970, Dick married Terry Lynn Fletcher, and together they parented daughters Jill and Jody, while continuing to live and work at their Hood River orchard until their divorce in 1986.
Norma Guyette and Dick were married in December, 1993, and embraced the artist's life of producing beautiful creations in sculptures of wood and ceramic. For a few wonderful years, Dick and Norma maintained their own exclusive gallery and studio on Satus Passjust outside of Goldendale, WA. Norma died of cancer in 2003.
Dick married Teressa K. Lee on July 4, 2006. Together they enjoyed trips to the beach and relaxing by the pond. Dick loved his time with his friends and family, as well as his special pet companions Cocoa and Licorice.
Dick was employed at Bryant Pipe as an Irrigation Designer in 2000, where he remained employed until his death.
Dick is survived by his Wife Teri, brother, Doug Radliff; sister, Laurie Radliff Branson; son, Jeff Radliff (Terra); daughters Jill House and Jody Loop (Don); and granddaughter, Hannah Hart; as well as step–daughter, Amy Harvey (John); and grandchildren Thomas Nickel, Rosemary Nickel, and Roam Tausend
A memorial service for Dick will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Westside Fire Rockford Station (4250 Barrett Drive,
Hood River, OR 97031)
