Dillard "Hacksaw" Massengale age 78, departed this life on Wednesday, Janaury 7, 2026. He was born on October 18, 1947 in the Smokey Junction Community to the late Elmer Massengale and Clemmie Lowe. Hacksaw served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, and was combat wounded. He received various medals with high honors, including the Purple Heart.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his Brother: Donald Massengale; Sisters: Dorothy Kimble, Wanda Newport, and Maudie Morris; Daughter: Genell Boshears.
He is survived by his brother: Ronald 'Moose" Massengale; Sisters: Vauda Faye Estep, Flonnie Daugherty, Linda Day, Beatrice Lowe and Lorene Day; Special Friend/ Neighbor: Gertude Hembree; and many other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. until time of Masonic service at 12:45 p.m. Funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Four Oaks Funeral Home of Huntsville with Bro. Jeff Watson officiating. Music to be provided by Dakota and Kansas Phillips. Full military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #136. Burial to follow in the Smokey Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family.
