Dixie Ackerman Obituary

Dixie was born on January 19, 1937 in Elwood, NE to parents Reynolds and Nona (Forden) Rhinehart. She grew up in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School.
On May 6, 1956, she married Clifford Ackerman at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. To this union, two children were born, Teresa and Mike.
After living in Alaska and Washington while Cliff was in the service, they settled in Gothenburg to raise their family. She worked several places over the course of her life. She was a news collector, a legal secretary, and a bookkeeper. But she spent most of her working life as the proprietor of The Spinning Wheel, a yarn and gift shop in downtown Gothenburg. After losing Cliff in 2009, she lived independently until her passing.
Dixie showcased her creative talents from a young age. She learned to crochet from her grandmother at age seven and never stopped crafting. Her family and friends will cherish handmade items created with love. She used her eye for fashion, her creative talents and her handiwork to bless many.
Dixie loved spending time with her family and friends. She often hosted coffee and conversation around her table sharing lots of laughs and love. And she was a great fan of Husker volleyball.
Dixie was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Gothenburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, and parents, Reynolds and Nona Rhinehart.
Dixie is survived by her children Teresa (Jeff) Serafin of Lincoln, Mike (Carmen) Ackerman of Gothenburg, sister, Jeanie (Steve) Johnson of Gothenburg; grandchildren, Jennifer (Luanne) Serafin of Lakewood, WA; Erin Odem of Lincoln, Amaya Ackerman of Lincoln; Arissa Ackerman of Savannah, GA; Ian Ackerman of Lincoln; great-grandchildren, Gracie and Everett Odem, and Connor Serafin.
Visitation will be held, Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, 620 10th St. Gothenburg, NE with the family present.
Funeral service will be held Monday, September 15, 2025, 10:00 AM at the Presbyterian Church in Gothenburg, NE, with Rev. David Boyd officiating.
Burial will follow in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department or the First Presbyterian Church.
