Dixie Ann Gillaspy was born January 17, 1932, in Onward, IN. At the age of 5, upon the death of her mother, she was adopted by Mabel and Harold Scott and their three sons, Richard, Robert, and Harold, Jr. She attended school in Kokomo, IN and graduated from Kokomo High School in 1950. She received her degree from William Woods College in 1952 and accepted a secretarial position at Delco Radio Corporation in Kokomo.

On November 20, 1953, she married Dudley A. Gillaspy, and they moved to Virginia Beach, VA. While there she was employed as a secretary to the Transportation Officer at Fort Story, VA.

Upon their return to Edina, Dixie worked in the office of Brown & Normile for six years, retiring to become a full-time MOM to their two children, Cynthia and Gregg. She was active in Girl Scouts for 20 years and received the Volunteer Thanks Award in approximately 1985. She was a member of Lambda Rho, Edina Country Club and United Methodist Church, where she served as Treasurer for 26 years. She was also a member of the Tuesday Bridge Club for over 40 years and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile for many years.

Dixie's greatest joys were found in her children and later her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very faithful in following them in their activities and never hesitated to use her bragging rights where grandchildren were concerned.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers and sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her husband: Dud; daughter: Cynthia Gillaspy; son: Gregg (Nancy) Gillaspy; stepson: Dennie (Ann) Gillaspy; five grandchildren: Keenan (fiancée Taylor) Gillaspy, Kellen (Cassie) Gillaspy, Grace Gillaspy, Tanner Gillaspy and Ryan (Chasity) Deatherage; and seven great grandchildren: Darcy Gillaspy, Ellie Gillaspy, Fulton Gillaspy, Maren Gillaspy, Lyle Gillaspy, Alex Gillaspy and Liam Deatherage.

It was Dixie's wish that there be no visitation or service, but that friends and family remember her from the happy moments in times past. There will be a private family burial service at a later date in Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, MO.

Memorials are suggested to Edina United Methodist Church, Knox County Nutrition site or Knox County Nursing Home. Memorials may be left at or mailed to Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1, Edina, Mo 63537.
