Dixie Guest Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis Greenlawn Funeral Chapels and Cemeteries on Jun. 6, 2023.
Memories of Dixie
Dixie enjoyed growing up with George and Jimmy playing softball and swimming. Hide and seek was her favorite game and she didn't wonder off too far from the others. As she got older though she became more independent. In the late 1960s she would ride the bus from Austin State School to Rosenberg for home visits. Unfortunately, that method of transportation had to stop after she decided to change buses and ended up in Lafayette Louisiana.
Dixie understood more than you think
Once when I wheeled Dixie into Trinity C one of the other residents was having a real meltdown and continued to express herself with loud screams. After about two turns of the wheels on her chair Dixie bent over to her school mate and said, "Get a grip!"
Unexpected behavior
It didn't bother me that Dixie no longer knew me at the time. I was just grateful she had good days when she felt better and could express herself. After her last stroke she could only have a liquid diet but could usually feed herself. Her psychologist shared a story about Dixie in the lunch room. After drinking her meal she picked up her milk carton and carefully poured the milk into the lap of the caregiver sitting with her. Then she broke out in hysterical laughter that spread throughout the entire group. The caregiver said the joy on Dixie's face was worth her wet lap.
