Dixie McClain Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory - Bartlesville on Apr. 29, 2025.
Dixie Lee Daniel McClain, 74, of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away peacefully on April 25th, 2025, surrounded by her family after a two-year battle with cancer. She was born February 26th, 1951, in Little Rock, Arkansas to Robert Alexander Daniel & Geraldine Fitzgerald Bowles Daniel, lovingly known as "Bobby and Goggy" to grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
After moving to McKinney, Texas in 1953, the Daniel family settled in Amarillo, Texas when Dixie was in the 8th Grade. She graduated from Tascosa High School in 1969. She met Roger Curtis McClain, her high school sweetheart, at the Polk Street United Methodist Church youth fellowship, where they were married in 1969. She continued her education at the North West Texas Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1972. She went on to work as a Psychiatric Registered Nurse at "The Pavilion" of North West Texas Hospital.
Roger and Dixie loved each other for over 55 years, together bringing two beloved children into the world: their daughter, Jennifer Anne McClain Ruley in 1970, and son, Robert Daniel Curtis McClain in 1976. In 1974, Dixie moved to Borger, Texas with her family, where she devoted herself to her children as a full-time mom, her favorite and most important job. Between 1974 and 1997, she moved family and home many times between Prairie Village, Kansas, Borger, Texas, and Bartlesville, Oklahoma. An accomplished decorator and homemaker, Dixie made each home beautiful and meaningful for her family, and her generous spirit touched the lives of many in each of these cities.
The McClain family settled in Bartlesville for a time in 1997. In these Bartlesville years, she became a pillar of the community, devoting herself to the congregation at Grace Community Church, her work as a Weight Watchers Leader, her ministry with Green Country Emmaus, her ownership and curation of The Vicarage gift shop, and her years of passionate service as the Secretary of the Board for On the Rock Ministries, later working as their Tutoring Coordinator. While in Bartlesville, Dixie became a Mimi to Ashlyn Nicole Ruley, Bryce Alexander Ruley, and Mason Riley Daniel McClain, frequently hosting grandkids and kin at "The House on Cherokee Street."
In 2010, Roger and Dixie packed up yet again and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Here, she was blessed with her daughter-in-law, Shannan, and another grandchild, Brennan Daniel Stout. Once again, she created a beautiful home in Tulsa, filled with warmth, wisdom, Westies, and the most exquisite tablescapes for every holiday meal. Her love and light will be sorely missed, but is forever cherished in memory by her husband, Roger McClain; her daughter, Jennifer Ruley, along with her husband, Loyd Ruley, and their children, Ashlyn and Bryce Ruley; her son, Daniel McClain, along with his wife, Shannan McClain, and their children, Mason McClain and Brennan Stout; as well as a host of beloved extended family in the Amarillo, Texas area. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Daniel and Geraldine Daniel. Beyond family, Dixie's memory lives on in the hearts of the dozens of communities she touched throughout a long and well-lived life.
A celebration of life will be held 10:30AM, Thursday, May 1st at Grace Community Church in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Afterwards, her close family will lay her to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery with her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to On the Rock Ministries care of 'Dixie Daniel McClain Memorial Fund'.
