Dixie Mowen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barry Wilson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Ltd. on Dec. 26, 2025.
Dixie Lee Mowen, 86, passed peacefully into Heaven on December 24, 2025, surrounded by love and carried home by God's grace. She was joyfully reunited with family who went before her and with her beloved, loyal companions, Max and Vincent.

Born on May 20, 1939, in Jerseyville, Illinois, to the late Melvin and Helen Wiseheart, Dixie carried her small-town roots with her throughout her life. While Jerseyville shaped her, Glen Carbon, Illinois became the place she truly called home.

Dixie was devoted to family, faith, and tradition. She believed in honoring each season as it came-firmly holding that no holiday décor or tablecloth belonged on display until the current one had fully run its course-a rule she upheld with both humor and conviction.

She is survived by her son, Russell, and his family; Cathy; granddaughters Breannon, Alyssum, and Caitlynn; and her eleven great-grandchildren, each a testament to the legacy of love she leaves behind.

In the later part of her life, Dixie was lovingly supported by her devoted daughter, Rebecca, Angela, her niece Elizabeth, and loyal friends of the family; Jane, Patty and Harley-who all faithfully served as her care and transport team, whether for a sweet stop at Bobby's for a sundae with nuts or long, happy hours spent wandering Walmart.

Dixie's demanding yet endearing spirit, sharp wit, and steadfast faith will be deeply missed. While her earthly journey has ended, we rejoice in the promise of eternal life and the peace she now knows in the presence of her Savior.

Dixie will be laid to rest at Grimes Neely Cemetery in Jerseyville, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Edwardsville Pet Hospital Angel Fund. Donations may be received at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, Illinois 62062.

Becky & Russell, my prayers are with you during this time of sorrow. The Lord knows your pain & will see you through it. Though memories of our families aren´t as many as I would like, I treasure the ones I do have. Here is the most recent I have of Aunt Dixie and her brother Paul Wiseheart. I assure you he´s been planning her welcome to heaven for the last 7 years. May it bring you comfort to know they have now been permanently reunited, along with the others who loved her & have departed during her lifetime. May God hold you in his arms! Love, Cheri
