Dixie Lee (Seltzer) Murphy, age 69, of York, and formerly of Middletown and Landisburg, passed away Friday, November 3, 2023. Dixie was born on Wednesday, May 5, 1954, in Halifax to the late David Seltzer and Dorothy (Dangler) Seltzer.
Dixie’s survivors include her significant other of 19 years, Anthony Baker, of Landisburg; her two sons: Jeremiah “JD” David Murphy and wife, Sabrina, of York, and Jason Patrick Murphy and wife, Heather, of Middletown; her four grandchildren: Kaylee Lauver, Connor Murphy, Brayden Murphy, and Sophia Murphy; her three siblings: Roger “Butch” Seltzer, Sr. and wife, Yvonne, of Halifax, Beverly Spotts and husband, Gary, of Halifax, and Diane “Dolly” Rife and husband, Russ, of Halifax; and her several nieces and nephews.
Dixie was the first woman steelworker at Shaw Pipe, now known as Durabond, which is owned by Bethlehem Steel. She retired from Ames True Temper, after years of service working as a Forklift Operator. Dixie was involved in her local community as a member of Middletown Moose Lodge. She frequented many yard sales, always looking for hidden treasures. Dixie started her day off with her favorite news show: Good Morning America with Kelly and Mark. She enjoyed flowers and was an avid gardener. Dixie loved animals and was passionate about raising chickens. She had an ear for music, and had it playing all day long. Dixie always made time for her family, going to Knoebels Amusement Park every year and going to get Chinese food with her beloved siblings. She will be dearly missed by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
All are welcome to join Dixie’s family at her celebration of life open house and gathering of family and friends on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a time of remembrance at 3:00 p.m. at Buhrig’s Gathering Place, 25 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055, (717) 766-3421 (next to Buhrig Funeral & Cremation); with Celebrant George Spangler officiating. Over 100 parking spaces are available; just look for the “Buhrig” parking signs in all of the parking lots. Cremation was private.
