Dolores Mary "Dee" Evans

Dolores Evans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mission Park Funeral Chapels Cherry Ridge on May 5, 2025.
Dolores "Dee" Mary Evans was born October 18, 1935, in Westphalia, Texas, and went to be with the Lord on April 22, 2025. She is preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Alma Ernst; siblings, Lynwood, Daniel, and Roman Ernst; her loving husband, Howard Leroy Evans; daughter, Mary Theresa Evans; stepdaughter Debbie and husband Charlie Bob Crow. She is survived by her children, Felicia Eckert (Bobby), Jimmy Evans, Mary Elizabeth Evans (Larry), Paul Evans, Stephen Evans (Jody), Sallye Evans, and Carl Evans (Sue); 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dee had a joy for life and was always "ALL IN". She always had a smile on her face, ready to lend a helping hand or give a word of encouragement. When you became a friend of Dee's, you became a friend for life and part of her family. In 1974, her world was turned upside down when her beloved husband, Howard, died. Her resilience, faith, and family kept her going. She worked for Liberty House, Rhodes department stores, and retired from San Antonio Credit Union (SACU) in 2001.
Dee was an active parishioner at St. Dominic's Catholic Church for over 50 years, heading up the Catechism program, and was on the building committee for the first church, now Piper Community Center. She was part of the Holmes High School booster club, supporting her children's sports, FFA, dance team, and cheerleading events. When grandchildren came along, she attended dance recitals, plays, martial arts events, soccer games, football games, and basketball games, traveling all over Texas and even to New Orleans. Summers were spent camping with family and friends on the Frio River. Dee delivered Meals on Wheels to at-risk, isolated clients with her neighbor, Doreen, for 20 years. She also loved music and dancing. Many family gatherings were spent in Texas dance halls and attending Willie Nelson concerts at Floore's Country Store.
Dee is most proud of being part of the Hoelscher-Buxkemper family, one of the largest recorded families in Texas. For 14 years, Dee was a board member and treasurer of the "HB" family reunion and part of the book committee, publishing a 1,400-page book in 2003 documenting 8 generations of descendants.
A special thank you goes out to Devona and her wonderful team: Brenda, Shannon, Rosa, Eva, Irma, Patsy, Angie, Lilly, Serena, and Lee at The Village at Incarnate Word Angelique House, who lovingly cared for Dee the past 21 months.
