Dominick Lacerenza Obituary

Dominick Lacerenza
Dominick Lacerenza, a lifelong Stamford resident, passed away unexpectedly on November 16 while traveling back to his favorite place, his home in Delray Beach, FL. He was 84 years old. Dom was the only son of the late Angelo and Antoinette (Cocco) Lacerenza.
Born October 17, 1938, he graduated from Stamford High School where he met the love of his life, Geraldine Zoppino, after spotting her on a bus in her Amiga sorority sweater. They were married in September 1960 and were inseparable until his passing.
He is also survived by his beloved children, Dawn (Bob Ehlers), Jill (Donald Angotta), and Matt (Kelly Northrop). He also leaves behind the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Anthony Angotta, Samantha and Mallory Ehlers. He will be fondly remembered by his Northrop step-grandchildren, Courtney (Matt Bertelli), Spencer, Riley (Dylan Rapoport) and Griffin; great-grandchildren, Luke and Nora Bertelli; as well as many extended family and friends. He will forever be one of the "boys of 56", a group of men who have been friends since high school and have seen each other through both joyful and difficult times.
From a young age, Dom was an accomplished athlete. He was a member of the Stamford team who won the Little League World Series in 1951. Dom was recruited to play football at the University of Connecticut, but after a severe injury ended his playing, he followed Geri to the University of Bridgeport. After graduating, he continued his pursuit of football and a variety of sports as a coach and physical education teacher. He also founded Stamford Marketing Field Research, a consumer product research company, in the early 1970s, which through persistence and determination, he built from a small start-up into a thriving business for more than 40 years.
Dom was dedicated to using sports as a way to better children's lives. He was a volunteer coach for Little League, Babe Ruth and Pop Warner, to name a few, and in later years, helped many young adults obtain college entrance and scholarships through sports. He was honored to be inducted into the Stamford Old Timers Athletic Association. Above all else, he loved spending time with his friends and family, hosting the annual Frank Robotti Memorial Foundation cookout, supporting his son's entrepreneurial adventures, or cheering on his grandkids at their various activities.
Family and friends may call at the Lacerenza Funeral Home, 8 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT, on Tuesday, November 22 from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 1:00 PM at St. Leo's Church, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT, where Dom was a lifelong parishioner since its founding. A private interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Stamford, CT.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dom's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital ( www.stjude.org/donate ), to which Dom and Geri have been long-time supporters. To leave an online condolence, please visit www.lacerenzafh.com

To the Lacerenza Family--Accept my prayers, with my wife. Sorry for your loss. The memories that I have come from the '51 Little League World's Series. My brother Bob, who was the catcher with Dom. I was 12 years old with my twin Paul at the time of the '51 World Series. We traveled with Dad and Mom to the games as they won each game and won the World Series, and put Stamford, CT on the map. The memories will never leave my mind. I can name the whole team to this day and Dom was a stand out. God bless Dom and family. A lot of the team are above now. We will meet again.

I am so incredibly sorry to here this news. Mr Lac was not just `like´ a father to me growing up, I considered him to be my second father. Throughout middle school and high school, I spent mostly every weekend at the Lacerenza´s. Pizza on Fridays and supper at 2PM Sundays. Those were some of the best times of my life and Mr Lac looked after me like a son. I will always remember him as someone who loved life, loved coaching, loved to laugh, wasn´t afraid to put you in your place when you (Matt and I) needed it, but most of all LOVED his family!!

My heart is broken for Mrs Lac, Matt, Dawn, Jill, Bob, Donald, Kelly, all of the grandchildren, family and friends!

Mr Lac was and will always be one of a kind. Someone who always wanted to make things better and someone who always took an interest in the success of those he cared about.

To the Lacerenza´s; I know that your hearts are broken and I hope you find healing soon in the love and memory of Mr Lac, knowing how much he was loved by others and how much he loved you.

And to Mr Lac; I love ya sir and thank you for making a difference in my life !

I am so sorry to hear of Dom´s passing. Though it was so long ago, it seems like yesterday when he would driving us to or from our football games and practice or giving us a good yelling at that we probably deserved! Though my memories are so long ago I can remember vividly his great sense of humor and his tremendous generosity! To the entire family I am deeply sorry for your loss!

To The Lacerenza Family,
Please accept my prayers and condolences on the passing of Dominick. Although I did not know Dominick, I was born in Stamford, know of the Lacerenza family, and coincidentally live in Delray Beach. One of my first cousins was Salvatore ("Tori") Fauci, who played with Dominick when they won the 1951 World Series. My mother, Tori´s aunt, was in PA at the winning game, and is featured on a video holding a "Stamford" sign. I will keep you all in my prayers.
