Don Alan Ball, 86, of Chelmsford, MA passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Palm Springs Post Acute in Chelmsford. Don died from the effects of a massive stroke suffered in June of this year. Don won his battles on this day by facing them with courage and grace. He won by spreading a lifetime of love and kindness that will long outlive him.
Don was born July 26, 1939 in Barre, VT. He was the son of Eldon and Ivis Ball. He attended public schools and graduated from Melrose High School in 1957. Subsequently he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business from the University of New Hampshire(1961). For most of his professional life he worked for Raytheon Manufacturing Company.
After retiring, Don spent his summers driving across America, visiting three to five different states each summer and visiting all of the National Parks. For the rest of this time Don indulged in his hobby of building intricate models of famous sailing ships. He also spent his time with his good friends playing poker, shuffleboard and guessing the scores of NFL games. He also had a long time association with the Boxborough Minutemen Company.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Mary. He is survived by his brother, Neil; nephew, Michael(Lavinia); niece, Jennifer(Dan); great-nephew, Marek; and great-nieces, Maya, Clara and Eve.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025 from 1-3 PM at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Avenue (Rt 111), Acton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boxborough Minutemen Company.
The family would like to thank the staff at Palm Springs for their care of Don.
