Don Boldra

Don Boldra, 84, of Marshalltown, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2022 at UnityPoint Health – Marshalltown.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 28 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Services for Don will take place on Saturday, October 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown with Pastor Gregg Davison officiating. Private family inurnment will take place at Riverside Cemetery with full military honors provided by the combined VFW/American Legion Honor Guard of the surrounding area. Born September 1, 1938 in Arion, Iowa, he was the son of Paul and Elsie (Lorenzen) Boldra. His father worked for the railroad, and the family lived in several different places before settling in Ferguson, Iowa when Don was in fifth grade. He graduated from Ferguson High School in 1956 and DeVry University in May 1957 before going on to serve his country in the United States Army from October of 1958 to February of 1962.
Don worked for his dad at the railroad and later five years at Northwestern Bell. While working in Ames, he met the love of his life, Kay Lynn Iverson. The couple was united in marriage on October 8, 1966 in Ellsworth, Iowa. Don decided to take advantage of the G.I. bill and attended college, first at Marshalltown Community College and then Iowa State University. He graduated from Buena Vista University in 1984. After graduating, he started his own business, Kan-do Inc.
Don was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and most recently, a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. He enjoyed coffee club, playing games, puzzles and his Corvettes. He also had a collection of phones, clocks and trains. Don was always quick to help and an excellent mac 'n cheese maker. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years, Kay; his two beautiful daughters: Amanda (Chad) Whaley of West Branch and Nicole (Eric) Reinsch of Bettendorf; four precious grandchildren: Lauren and Matthew Whaley and Miles and Max Reinsch and several nieces and nephews.
In eternal life, he was reunited with his parents, Paul and Elsie; his two sisters: Doris (Paul) Flanagan and Louise Bennett and his brother, Leroy, in infancy.
