Don Michael "Mike" Cottrell passed away on February 25th, 2026, at his home in Dahlonega following an extended illness. He was born on January 3rd, 1953, in Vohburg, Germany to Don and Connie Cottrell, the oldest of five children.
Mike lived a life defined by vision, determination, and generosity. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and carried those values of discipline and dedication throughout his life.
He began his professional career working alongside his father at Cottrell, Incorporated in Gainesville, Georgia. Through unwavering work ethic, innovation, and leadership, Mike helped guide the company to be a leader in the car-hauling industry. His commitment to excellence and creating a strong workplace culture left a lasting impact on both his employees and the industry. Beyond his business success, Mike was deeply committed to giving back to his community. He was a longtime supporter of University of North Georgia, Junior Achievement, and many other organizations. His philanthropy reflected his belief in empowering future generations through education and opportunity.
A devoted family man and outdoorsman at heart, Mike found joy in hunting, fishing, golfing, traveling, and spending time in nature, especially when shared with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Cottrell; his children; Merri Kris Cottrell Wayne (Daren), Michael D. Cottrell (Kim), DJ Cottrell (Meghan), Dakota Cottrell-Graham (Levi), and Kayla Cottrell; his sisters: Christine Cottrell, Terry Leming (Derrick), and Kathy Moore (Chuck); and his beloved grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Connie Cottrell, and his sister Tricia Claytor. Mike will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His legacy of leadership, generosity and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
