Beaty Funeral Home - MineolaIt is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Ray Dawson, who departed this life peacefully on September 6, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on February 15, 1935, in Naples, Texas, Don was a cherished member of his community in Mineola, Texas.
Don dedicated thirty-six years of his professional life to the railroad industry as a conductor. His commitment to his work was matched by his service to his country, having enlisted in the United States Army on March 27, 1958, and honorably discharged on March 25, 1960, with the rank of Private First Class.
A devoted family man, Don is survived by his beloved spouse, Sandra Dawson; his son, Danny Dawson and wife, Carolyn Dawson; and his daughter, Dayna Sadler. He took great joy in his role as a grandfather "Poppy" to Cody Lindley, Clay Lindley (Tiffani), Casey Lindley (Peyton), Josh Sadler (Jessica), Chase Sadler (Chaucie), and Meagan Hughes. He also rejoiced in the love of his great-grandchildren: Gracie, Kennedy, Jackson, Hudson, Jase, Gunnar, Colt, Jack, Maverick, and Jett.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ruby Dawson and brothers, James Dawson and Billy Dawson.
For three decades, Don faithfully served as an elder at Church on the Rock in Quitman, Texas, where he was deeply loved by the church family. He cherished the simple pleasures in life, including watching his favorite sports teams, playing card games, sharing laughter, and treasuring time with his friends and family. Most of all , Don's faith in the Lord shaped his life and touched the hearts of everyone around him.
A memorial service will take place at Church on the Rock in Quitman on September 20, 2025, visitation at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am.
Don will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, service, love and laughter will endure in the hearts of his family and friends.
Those wishing to remember Don in a special way may consider a contribution to " the building fund"at Church on the Rock in Quitman, Texas in Don's memory.
