Don Thomas Godwin

Don Thomas Godwin, age 95, went to be with the Lord on November 10, 2025, in Knoxville, TN.
He was born on January 18, 1930, in Rutledge, TN, to parents Roy Hill Godwin and Gladys French Godwin.
Don graduated from Rutledge High School and went on to earn his degree from Carson-Newman University. After college, Don served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force, he began his career at ORNL, where he later retired. He attended Piney Grove Baptist Church for over 40 years.
Some of Don's hobbies included traveling, sports, and reading.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Hill and Gladys French Godwin; brother, Frank (Peggy) Godwin; sister, Betty Rome; brother-in-law, Bill Mims; son, Tommy Godwin; daughter, Elizabeth Davis; and nephew, Jeffrey Mims.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Idol Godwin; daughters, Donna Wright and Robyn Raley; sister, Mary Mims; step-sons, Johnny and David Idol; brother-in-law, Gordon Rome; and several special nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Piney Grove Baptist Church (2109 Piney Grove Church Rd, Knoxville, TN 37909) on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:30 PM, officiated by Pastor Rick Lemons. The graveside service will take place immediately after.
