Don Wayne McKellar, a welder by profession, passed away on February 6, 2024, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love. Don was born on September 11, 1942, in Fort Worth, Texas, where he spent his entire life enveloped in the warmth of family and community.


Don had a vibrant personality that drew people to him like moths to a flame. As everyone's favorite uncle, he effortlessly radiated joy and brought smiles to those around him. His laughter filled rooms and his playful spirit made every gathering memorable. Don had a knack for making even the most mundane moments exciting and always taking fun to another level.


A caring soul at heart, in his early years Don found immense joy in spending time with his family. He loved nothing more than taking his nieces and nephews to the zoo. fishing parades and picnics at the park. Those outings were filled with laughter, chatter, and the buzzing energy of happy children running around. Don's presence made every occasion special.  He was definitely a father role in their lives. 


Education played an important role in Don's life, and he attended I.M. Terrell High School with great enthusiasm. It was during these formative years that Don discovered his love for welding—an art he would later master and forge a successful career from.


Beyond his professional achievements as a welder, Don's proudest accomplishments centered around family. He was a devoted, son. brother, uncle, father and grandfather His unwavering love and support created a bond within his family that will be cherished forever.


In addition to being a loving family man, Don served his country proudly as a member of the Air Force. His commitment to duty and honor exemplified the valor of our armed forces.


Don lived life to the fullest by embracing a range of hobbies and interests. Whether it was savoring sweets that satisfied his sweet tooth or embarking on fishing adventures, Don found contentment in the simple pleasures of life. He had an innate passion for helping others, demonstrating his selflessness and compassion. Don's love for flying kites brought out his inner child, and he delighted in the freedom they symbolized. Additionally, he enjoyed the scratch off lotto tickets and frequented the casino, where he found excitement in taking chances and trying his luck.


To honor Don's life, friends and family are invited to attend services in celebration of his remarkable journey. The viewing will take place on February 12, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Golden Gate Funeral Home and Cremation located at 5701 East Loop 820 South in Fort Worth, Texas.


On February 13, 2024, a Celebration of Life service will be held at the same location starting at 11:00 AM. This gathering will allow loved ones to remember Don with stories that capture his spirit and embody the love he shared with all who knew him.


Following the Celebration of Life service, Don will be laid to rest with military honors at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. The burial ceremony will take place at 2:15 PM on February 13, 2024, at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway in Dallas, Texas.


As we bid farewell to Don Wayne McKellar, let us remember him as a beacon of joy and love. His unwavering spirit lives on through the countless memories he created with those fortunate enough to cross his path. May his soul find eternal peace as we hold dear the legacy of laughter and happiness he leaves behind.
