Don Richwine, 81, of Stark, passed away at 7:20 p.m., Saturday, November 22, 2025 at his home.
He was born on April 29, 1944 in Porterville, Kansas to Leon and Lola (Manbeck) Richwine. Don attended grade school in Porterville until transferring to Stark schools and graduating from Joint Rural #3 High School in Stark. He later attended Pittsburg State University.
Don served in the Army National Guard from June 8, 1964 to June 7, 1970 in the 3rd Battalion 137th Infantry and received the rank of Staff Sergeant.
He owned his family's business Richwine's General Store in Stark for over 40 years. Don was an active community member in Stark where he served on the city council, as mayor and a volunteer fire fighter.
Don enjoyed gardening, cooking, golfing, hunting, fishing, and especially his trips to Canada fishing. He loved going on mystery bus trips, visiting Branson and attending the various shows and listening to Gaither's music. He was a member of Stark United Methodist Church, Kansas Bow Hunter's Association and the George L. Hendricks Post No 102, American Legion in Erie.
He and Nancy Rice were married on June 13, 1997 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He was previously married to Linda Huffman of Elsmore and they later divorced.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Richwine of Stark, his children, Brad Richwine (Claudia) of Texas, Jennifer Layton of Leavenworth, Jim Holman (Juliet) of New York and Julie Richwine; a brother, Kelly Richwine (Pat) of Grove, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Bailey Richwine, Cody Layton, Ella Layton, Wesley Holman and Tessa Holman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Lola Richwine; a daughter, Pamela Richwine and his former wife, Linda Huffman.
The family will have a Celebration of Life at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Stark Alumni – Class of 1953 and may be mailed to the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, P.O. Box 182, Erie, KS 66733.
