It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dona Shields, a vibrant soul who filled our lives with warmth and love, on February 20, 2025, at the age of 51. Born on March 8, 1973, in Columbus, Ohio, she was a beacon of kindness and joy in the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know her.
Dona, whose maiden name was Toops, dedicated many years of her life to working at Waffle House, where she met the love of her life, John. Their love story was one for the ages, blossoming amidst the sizzling plates and shared smiles. She also spent time at Stradders Garden Center, where her love for plants flourished, reflecting her nurturing spirit and serenity.
Dona had a bright personality that made her one of the most welcoming and friendly people anyone could ever meet. She was full of love, ensuring that those around her always felt cherished and appreciated. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth, and she loved to garden, cultivate her house plants, and tend to her beautiful flower beds. Dona greatly adored her bulldog, Sadie Lynn, sharing countless delightful moments with her.
Family was everything to Dona, and she took immense pride in her three children: Seth, Sarah, and Zackary. Though her time as a grandmother was brief, the moments spent cherished with her seven grandchildren will always be remembered as some of the happiest of her life. Dona found immense joy in gathering family and friends together, throwing the best summer bash parties where laughter and love were the main course.
Surrounded by her beloved family in her final moments, Dona left this world as she lived it: surrounded by love. She is survived by her devoted husband, John Shields, her father, James Toops, Sr., her mother, Kathy Toops, her sisters, Bobbi Toops and Tina Porter, her brother, James Toops, Jr., and her wonderful children, Seth Toops, Sarah Case, Zackary Case, Ashlee Buckley, and Mallory Penny. Additionally, her legacy continues through her seven precious grandchildren and her loyal bulldog, Sadie Lynn.
Dona Shields will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her infectious smile, unwavering spirit, and the love she shared so freely. The visitation will take place on February 27, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 3:00 PM, both held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest, located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH.
May her memory continue to inspire us all to love fiercely and to live fully, just as she did.
Even though Dona LOVED flowers, the family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be given to the Franklin County Humane Society in her memory. https://www.fchsanimals.org/donate.html
