Dona Lee Wong, 75, of Lexington, passed away peacefully at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln on September 20, 2022, while surrounded by her family.
She was born on December 12, 1946, and raised in the San Francisco Bay area. She grew up with two sisters, one being a twin. The twins were the first in their family to graduate from college. Dona attended undergrad at Stanford and received her Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. She played tennis at Stanford and was retroactively inducted into the Block S Athletic Society, since women's varsity sports teams were not offered when she was a student there.
She ran a lab as part of the Pritzker Laboratory at Stanford for many years, doing research in molecular biology. She then moved to Lexington in 1999, and ran her lab at McLean Hospital in Belmont until her retirement. She also worked closely with undergrads and graduate students to mentor and teach, and loved working with the next generation of scientists.
Dona enjoyed cooking, especially Chinese and Cantonese cuisine. She loved skiing, playing tennis and traveling around the world. She will also be remembered as an avid pianist, gardener and photographer.
She is survived by her son, David Wong-Faull and his wife Chen Feng, as well as her brother-in-law, Barry Shane. She was the daughter of the late Donald Sam Wong and Mary Lee Wong, and sister to the late Mary Lee Wong and Kathleen Joyce Wong.
Family and friends will gather privately for her visitation and funeral service at the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
Contributions may be made in her memory to the Association for Women in Science (www.awis.org).
Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
