Donald J Babair, 88, went home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2025. Born on February 26, 1937 in Indiana, Donald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of God.
He was married for 65 wonderful years to his beloved wife, Barbara L. Babair. Together they built a loving family that was the center of Donald's life. He is survived by his daughter Julie (Gene) Wells, and his son Michael (Julia) Babair. Donald was the proud grandfather of Matthew Wells (fiance Katie Fratesi), Steven Wells, Tyler Drakes, Hannah Babair, and Chase Babair (Fiance Sarah Autry), and was preceded in death by his grandson David Wells.
Donald proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division. Following his military service, Donald enjoyed a successful career across several industries before devoting his life later to public service and community involvement. He served as a commissioner for the town of Windermere, Florida and as a member of the Manpower Planning Council for Orange County, Florida where he worked diligently to make a positive impact on his community.
Throughout his life, Donald had a heart for ministry and was deeply committed to his Christian faith. He was instrumental in creating and leading junior churches at many congregations he attended, sharing his love for the Lord with countless children and families. His compassionate spirit also led him to volunteer regularly at local food banks, including Loaves and Fishes in Orlando.
Donald was also a philanthropist, supporting organizations such as Wreaths Across America and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In his leisure time, he enjoyed fishing, antiquing, and above all, spending time with his family.
After many years in Florida, Donald spent his final years in Anniston, Alabama where he continued to live out his faith and kindness in everyday life.
Donald's legacy is one of service, love, and faith. He will be remembered for his warm heart, steadfast integrity, and joyful devotion to God and family.
A military service will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery in Florida to honor his life and service, with a celebration of life planned for a later date.
