Donald A. Barna, age 49, of Chadds Ford, PA, passed away peacefully after battle with ALS on December 30, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Don faced a challenging journey with ALS with remarkable strength and positivity that inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering spirit shone brightly. His smile, a beacon of strength, was a constant reminder of his resilience and the joy he brought to those around him. Born in West Chester, PA, Don was a proud graduate of West Chester East High School, Class of 1995. He lived a life filled with passion, dedicating his craftsmanship to his career as an automotive painter, where he took immense pride in his work.
Don's spirit was as vibrant as his passions. He relished the thrill of motocross racing, cherished Sundays spent cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles, and reveled in playing ice hockey with friends. His love for the outdoors saw him enjoying both hunting and fishing, and he created lasting memories on road trips with his family. A devoted member of St. John Chrysostom Church in Wallingford, his faith guided him and fostered a sense of community that he valued deeply.
He is lovingly remembered by his cherished wife of 8 years, Jillian Ficchi Barna, and their beloved children, James, Connor, and Gianna. He leaves behind his devoted in-laws, Sharon and Vince Ficchi, as well as his brothers and sisters-in-law: Vincent and Natalie, Jenna and Marc, and Michael and Sam. Don's legacy of love also survives in his four nieces and one nephew, whom he adored.
Don was predeceased by his beloved mother, Patricia Harper, in 2013. While his absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him, those who loved him will carry on his spirit in their hearts.
Don's family would like to thank Penn Home Hospice and Palliative Care team for their amazing care and support. They also want to personally thank Maggie Connell, Luisa Torres, Michelle Andress, and Jim and Trish Kerns for their unbelievable care and compassion that they had given to Don and his family. One special thanks goes to Don's nurse Katherine, Aka "The Big Bad Wolf" who cared for Don with compassion, skill, and dedication, and also with warmth and empathy.

Don was my older brother Dan's best friend when they were teenagers. Don continued to look out for me and my other brother Scotty as we got older. He even helped out my mom with her Roller Hockey endeavors by coaching and refereeing. Throughout the years, I was fortunate to hear his name and always smiled thinking about his thoughtfulness and the impression he left on me starting at such a young age.

I will NEVER forget our many trips to Porter's Lake where my brother, Dan, now raises his children. Don spend hours towing us on the snow mobile and entertaining us with his antics while tubing or water skiing.

I will always hold a special place in my heart for Don. He always saw me as a person and never just a little sister. He cared deeply for anyone he interacted with and I know he has left a beautiful legacy for his own children to carry on.

You will be missed Don. Despite not seeing you in a number of years, you were loved by my whole family! Especially my mom, Tedi, who I know will be one of the first to greet you when you make it to Heaven.
