Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carr-Yager Funeral Home - Fayette on Mar. 9, 2026.
Donald Lee Bittle, 62, passed away January 27, 2026, a casualty of the fire at the Perkins Home in Fayette.

Donnie was born on March 25, 1963, a son of Tommy Elliott Bittle and Elizabeth "Ann" Young Bittle. He was a graduate of Boonville High School. Donnie loved his friends and family. He had formerly been employed with Kemper Military Academy in Boonville and delivered the Kansas City Star. He volunteered with fire departments in the Boonville and New Franklin areas. Donnie loved fishing, going on trips to antique malls, listening to his scanner, listening to country music and visiting with others. He was known for his ability to exaggerate a story and bring enjoyment to others.

Donnie was an active member of People First for over 20 years. He was the founder of Howard County People First, a State Steering Committee Member of the organization for 10 years and a Partner's in Policymaking graduate. Donnie was an incredible self-advocate that many looked up to. He made many trips to the State Capitol to speak with State Representatives to advocate for individuals with disabilities and their needs including Medicaid, transportation and inclusion. He was a visionary and eager to get things done and will be missed by all self-advocates.

Donnie is survived by a brother, Robert "Bobby Dale" Bittle; a sister, Connie Mallick; stepmother, Mary Helen Bittle; uncle, Jerry Bittle; nieces, Kayla Moore and Michelle Bittle; nephew, Dustin Patterson; great nieces and great nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and an infant brother.

A memorial service honoring Donnie's life will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Carr-Yager Funeral Home in Fayette. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin.
