It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of, Donald (Dutch) Leslie Blank, who left us peacefully on October 4th 2025 surrounded by family at the age of 91. Born on February 19, 1934 in Frostburg, Maryland, Dutch was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Dutch was a 1952 graduate of Beall High School. He served in the United States Navy before he worked many years at PPG Industries in Cumberland, Maryland. Dutch graduated from Frostburg State College with a Bachelor's of Science degree in 1970. He began his teaching career for Allegany County Board of Education in 1970. For many years he also enjoyed coaching freshman basketball at Allegany High School.Dutch taught special education at Allegany High School until he retired in 1996.
Dutch was the son of Walter and Ida Blank. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Stewart Blank in March 2025 after 70 years of marriage. They were high school sweethearts. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Leona, Edna and Rose, his brothers Walter (Bud), Howard and Raymond, and sons-in-law Bob Smith (Kim) and Ron Leaf (Karen).
He is survived by his children Karen, Kim, Leslie (Dean), David (Leslie), Jeffrey (Leesa), grandchildren Stacey (Kevin), Jessica, Megan (Tom), Carley (David), Tara (Aaron), Bobby (Cindy), Brad (Amanda), Ben (Upasana), Dexter, Sami (Bryce), Katie (Robin), Amie (Dane), Dustin (Lexi), Davis, Jacob, Salee, great-grandchildren Michael, Alexander, Nathan, Joshua, Kaylin, Brayley, Kendra, Weston, Kara, Delia, Paige and Lincoln and his sisters Jean Nation and Joyce Nelson.
Dutch was a member of First English Baptist Church in Frostburg, Maryland. He was a member of Maplehurst Country Club and enjoyed golfing with his golf buddies. Dutch was a 60 year Mason at Mountain Lodge 99 A.F. & A.M. and a long-time member of Ali Ghan Shriners Hospital in Cumberland, Maryland.
Dutch loved spending time with his family, gardening, golfing, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Duke basketball.
The family would like to thank Dr. Shiv Khanna, Tri-State Home Care, Eagle House Memory Care Assisted Living Facility and Egle Nursing and Rehab for providing care to Dutch.
A private family service to celebrate the life of Dutch Blank will be held on October 11, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to First English Baptist Church.
