Donald Burnash Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Miller Funeral Services - Houston on Aug. 14, 2023.
Donald Albert Burnash Jr., 73, of Houston, Texas was received by our Lord on August 11, 2023. Donald suffered a life changing stroke that had him life flighted to Houston, Texas on March 31, 2021. The stroke left Donald paralyzed on his right side and was unable to recover from it.
Born to Donald and Carol Burnash in Gloversville, New York on January 18, 1950. Donnie loved the country where he broke horses for nine years in his early life. Wanting to be a veterinarian, Donnie would switch gears and find his passion for automotive technology, where he would become an ASE Certified Triple Master Automotive Technician. During the blizzard of 1977, he made a prompt decision to get away from the cold weather that New York was known for. In 1981, Don and his family packed up and headed to Houston, Texas where he would eventually open HAF Inc. and found the new love of his life, Shelly Richardson. His love for cars sparked an interest in drag racing, which became a hobby. NHRA was so impressed with his race team they sent them to Monterrey, Mexico and Oklahoma to participate in drag races. Aside from his love for drag racing, Donald and his wife, Shelly were passionate about giving back to their community. Don volunteered with the Citizen Police Academy. He was an active supporter of the HPD Gulfton Storefront, and a volunteer Firefighter of the Cat Springs Fire Department. Being a positive role model, Donnie loved his country and will be truly missed.
Don is survived by his wife, Shelly Richardson Burnash; sons, Scott and wife, Diana Burnash, and Christopher and wife, Jennifer Burnash; nine grandchildren; siblings, Dean and wife, Tracey, David and wife, Linda, Kathleen and husband, Phil, Dale, Kelly and partner Sandy, and Mary and husband, Ron; and a host of extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held in the Miller Funeral Chapel, 7723 Beechnut St., Houston, Texas 77074 on August 18, 2023 from 11:00 am until 12:30 pm with a service to follow at 12:30 pm. There will be a procession to San Jacinto Memorial Park, 14659 East Freeway, Houston Texas 77015.
