Donald Case Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Merton H Kays Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 27, 2026.
Donald D. Case Sr. born January 24, 1956 in Valhallen NY, a borough of Mt. Pleasant NY. Don has left the land of the dying and joined the land of the Living with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 26, 2026 He passed away peacefully at his home with his wife by his side.

He is probably fishing with the disciples already! Don completed 11th and 12th grade in one year and graduated from Jefferson High School in Rochester NY in 1973. He promptly joined the Marine Corps Reserve at age 17. He received a National Defense Service Medal and spent time overseas and was involved in Viet Nam during the evacuation of the troops. After 4 years in the Marine Corps, Don spent 8 years in the Army Reserves as a Survival Tactics Sargent. His civilian life included jobs such as Security Guard, a Deputy Sheriff at the Juvenile detention center in Rochester. He sold cars for Pealer Chevrolet in Rochester, and worked at Hurley Corporation of America. He later joined the Maintenance team for Barrington Residential, and eventually Conifer Realty as a Maintenance Supervisor. He retired in 2022 after 13 years with Conifer. Don worked part time at The Furniture Doctor in Bloomfield NY. He loved working at The Furniture Doctor and the staff there became his second family and he was very disappointed when he had to leave.

Don spent every free moment in or near the water, wherever he could find it! His passion was fishing and being outdoors at all costs, especially with his grandsons. He loved hiking, camping and target shooting. Exploring dirt roads, yard games and any kind of music. Did we mention fishing??? He was also the bicycle and fishing pole repair man for the neighborhood kids! Don will be remembered as a fun loving, very strong man who was always standing up for the little guy and thinking about what someone might need that no one else seemed to notice. He had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. His interest in History went way back and he could tell you anything the history books had to say. He used to say he was a useless wealth of information! He loved his wife fiercely and his head over heels devotion to his 'sweet pea' would be an understatement. He was bold in his beliefs and a Watchman on the Wall!! At the end of a long week his reward 'for not killing anyone' was always a hostess orange cupcake!!!

Don was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Lorraine Withy, his nephew Jimmy "Munch" McNinch, His sister Althea "Casey" McNinch, His brother Jimmy Case, his grandson Mason Furgal, His Mother in Law, Susie Frost, and his Sister in Law Molly Peachey.

He has left behind his faithful wife Julie, his younger brother Fred Fisher of Waterloo NY, his four boys; Donald Jr. "Bear" (Lisa) Rochester NY, Jason Case of Rochester NY, Christopher Case (Ashley Melinis), Greece NY. Edward Case of Greece NY. 2 Step children; Tony LaBore of Oswego NY (Emilee Massa), And Elissa LaBore (Jeffery Furgal) of Henrietta NY. His sister in law Robin Freeman (Chuck) of Cortland NY, Brother in law Jack Frost (Debbie), of Milton FL, Sister law Susan Hewett (Michael) of Manchester CT, Brother in law Bill Peachey of Clarendon PA, and brother in law Mark Frost of Warren PA. Don has 9 grandchildren; Gianna, Giovanni, Gulianno, Liam, Hailey, Paul, Emma, Tristan and Riley, Pop Pop, Paw, or Donny as he called himself… will be dearly missed by all who had the joy of sharing his life and adventures.

Our lives will never be the same again because of the love and joy that he brought to us all. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Veterans Debt Assistance program or to your local no kill animal shelter.
