A Heavenly Entrance for Don Cheek
Don Cheek, a husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all, peacefully went to be with
the Lord on December 3rd, 2023, at the age of 74. He spent his final days in Palm
Harbor, FL, surrounded by his loving family.
Don was known for his great sense of humor, love for the Lord and devotion to his
family. If you knew him, you would know he loved a good cigar and talking to people; he
never met a stranger. His hobbies included a good game of cornhole, painting, bass
fishing, and golfing with family and friends. He loved cruising around the world and
visiting his second home in Virginia, on Smith Mountain Lake.
He was born in Logan, West Virginia, the son of Alice and Donald B. Cheek. He
graduated from Marshall University in 1970. Throughout his career life, Don served as
the Council Executive of the Boy Scouts of America, City Manager for the City of St
Albans in West Virginia, and concluded his career after 27 years as the general manager
for Corolla Light Resort. Don was a member of Corolla Chapel in Corolla, NC, and upon
moving to Palm Harbor, Florida, he attended Countryside Christian Church in Clearwater.
He is preceded in death by his father, Donald B. Cheek. He is survived by his 93-year-old
mother, Alice Cheek, his loving wife of 53 years, Rhonda Cheek, two wonderful children
Pamela (Floyd) Mitchell and Chris Cheek of Palm Harbor, FL, three grandchildren: Austin
(Tori) Mitchell of Nashville, TN, Garrett (Brooke) Mitchell of Charleston, SC, and Abigail
Mitchell of Palm Harbor, FL, and one great-grandchild, Scarlett Capri Mitchell (Austin
and Tori). His loving dog, 'Lilly Girl' Cheek, also survives him, along with many other
loving family members and friends
