Rutland – Donald R. Congdon, 71, died after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 at UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus, Worcester. He was born in Holden, the son of the late Chester and Grace Evelyn (Judkins) Congdon and graduated from Wachusett High School with the class of 1972.
Donald worked at Norton Co. for many years and more recently drove a truck for Pepsi Co., retiring in 2014. He married the love of his life, Robin and the couple settled in Rutland where they raised their family. Donald was an avid golfer and member of the Dunroamin Country Club in Gilbertville. He was very proud of the fact that he won the 2000 Men's Club Championship 2nd Division. He had a passion for cooking and loved preparing delicious meals for his friends and family. In his younger years, Donald was the captain for the Beef and Bourbon Restaurant slow-pitch softball team. He was an avid New England Patriots fan. Above all he cherished his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren.
Donald will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 47 years, Robin (Burnett) Congdon; his children, Jamie Vincent and her husband, James of Mashpee, Lindsay Leslie and her husband, Michael of Barre, Kaylin Powers and her husband, Andrew of Holden and Drew Congdon of Rutland; his brothers, David Congdon and his wife, Carol of Rutland and Mark Moulton and his wife, Yagoda of CT; his sister, Lynne Kline of Worcester; and his grandchildren, Jacob, Anabelle, Jack, Archer, Foster, Mia and Luka. Donald was also predeceased by his brother, William Congdon.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial calling hours from 12 to 2 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy Association, OPMD Association, 18018 Overlook Loop, Suite 105 #1050, San Antonio, TX 78259.
