Donald "Don" L. Smith, 81, of Knightstown, passed away Monday, March 10, 2025 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.

He was born August 20, 1943 in Indianapolis the son of the late Earl and Dorotha (Hawkins) Smith.

Don graduated from Charlottesville High School and then joined the United States Army and proudly served his country in Germany. Shortly after being discharged he attended a Four Seasons Concert with his sister Diane, and some of her friends from work. One of those girls happened to be Donna Sisk whom Don married six months later on May 15, 1965.

Don spent many years in the construction field and specialized in pole barns and hog confinements. His later years working were in building maintenance at IMI. He was always a hard working man, but he loved to relax with Donna in his boat, fishing, running around the neighborhood on his golf cart, eating ice cream, watching the Price is Right and Westerns on TV, and telling funny stories. Don loved spending time with his grandchildren and their neighborhood kids roaming around on the golf cart and having fun.

Don's survivors include his wife Donna; sons, Tony (Cheyenne) Smith and Rick (Mary Jo) Smith; daughter, Amy (Keith) Shertzer; sister, Alice Shinnick; grandsons, Eric (Kelsi) Smith, Ethan and Quentin Smith and Jacob Shertzer; granddaughter, Samantha Shertzer; and two great-granddaughters, Kennedy and Ava Smith.

He is preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Bonnie Smith; brother, Tom Smith; sisters, Edna Mae Ward and Diane Everton; daughter-in-law, Wanda Smith; and grandson, Dustin Smith.
