Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ambrose Funeral Home - Bay City on Jan. 8, 2024.
Donald E. Eager, Sr.
Bay City, Michigan
Our loving husband, father, grandfather and brother in Christ, Donald E. Eager, went home to the Lord January 6, 2024 at the age of 84. Don was born November 2, 1939 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Louis and Cecilia (VanSumeren) Eager. On November 26, 1966 Don married his best friend and soulmate, Carol Socha at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Together they raised three boys that he was very proud of. In his youth Don served in the US Army. Don attended St. James High School and Michigan State University. He then worked 35 years at General Motors Saginaw Manufacturing as a supervisor before retiring.
Playing and coaching baseball was his passion.
He is well remembered as "Coach" by those who played for Southend Little League, Pony League and Colt League. During his coaching tenure at Bay City All Saints he took the 1991 baseball team to the state title game.
In his later years he had time for his artistic talents and enjoyed drawing and painting scenery and portraits of his family. He also embraced genealogy by researching his family history.
During his retirement he enjoyed attending his grandson's sporting events, spending his summers relaxing with family and friends at the cottage on Hubbard Lake, MI and spending winters on Anna Maria Island, Fl.
Don was a remarkable man. He embraced his Catholic faith with unwavering devotion. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, coach, and friend. He was a man of integrity and love. Don was also known for his impeccable style, earning him the nickname Dapper Don. Above all, Don treasured his time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory is the love of his life, his wife Carol; children: Donald "Donnie" (Janelle) Eager II, Derek Eager, David (Jouliana) Eager; beloved grandchildren: Sawyer, Decklyn, Brenna; brother, Gary (Pat) Eager; brother and sister in law: Barbara Urbaniak, Peter Socha; and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Cecilia Eager; father and mother in law Peter and Gertrude Socha: siblings: Lola Anderson, Robert Eager, and Judy Barker, brother in law Doug Urbaniak and sister in law Kathy Socha.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM Friday, January 12, 2024 at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish - St. Stanislaus Church. Fr. Nicholas Coffaro will celebrate. A graveside service is to follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends may call for visitation at Ambrose Funeral Home Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM and Friday January 12, 2024 at the church from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. A Vigil service will be held Thursday at 7:00 PM at Ambrose. Those considering a donation in Donald's name may wish to consider the All Saints Catholic School or Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish.
