Grand Rapids Cremation Services - Grand RapidsDonald Ray Engel, age 78, went to his eternal rest on February 15, 2026. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Linda Engel.
Donald is survived by his children: Donna Blakely; Rob Gardner (Robb Melville); Lisa (Dan) Williams; Heather (Mike) Reger; Amy (Asdras) Jackson; and Sara (Terrence) Murphy. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, 1 sister, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
Donald dedicated many years of service to Western Michigan University, working at the university’s sports complex. In retirement, he continued serving his community as a crossing guard for the local public schools. He was a familiar and friendly face each summer at the Allegan County Fair, where he gladly volunteered his time.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Donald’s life on April 4, 2026. An intimate burial will take place at Poplar Hill Cemetery, followed by a gathering for family and friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Rob’s home, 12730 Goldenrod Ct., Wayland, Michigan.
Donald will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and his quiet commitment to serving his community. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
