Donald Dale Fisbeck was born on September 30, 1938 in
Paoli, Colorado at home to Emil H. Fisbeck and Elnora Theresa (Krueger) Fisbeck. He passed away on January 28, 2024 from Metastatic Melanoma.
Don grew up the typical boy hunting, fishing and playing baseball. He attended schools in Paoli and Haxtun Colorado and graduated from Haxtun High School in 1956. While in high school he met and fell in love with Barbara Bennett. They were married August 23,1959 and together 48 years until Barb's death in 2008.
After high school Don worked on a farm driving a tractor and hauling hay. He also worked at the Holyoke Enterprise Newspaper from 1959-1962 as a Pressman. In 1962 Don was drafted into the service where he went into the Army. He did his basic training in
Colorado Springs, Colorado and was eventually stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina as a supply sergeant. He and Barb made lots of Army friends and stayed in touch with them for many years.
In 1964, after Don got out of the service they made their home in
Ft. Collins, Colorado. Don went to work for NAPA Auto Parts. In 1966, Don and Barb started their family with the birth of Susan Lee, and in 1969 Judy Lyn was born.
Don owned Fox Center Automotive with partner Story Lynn for several years. One of his fondest memories was when Lyle Alzado from the Denver Broncos came in to get some auto parts, Don was star struck!
After selling Fox Center Automotive he worked at Checkpoint Auto for many years as the parts manager. Don went to work at Summers Automotive where he would work for 29 years and finally retired at the age of 80. He was so thankful for all of the friendships he made through his years of being a parts manager.
Don loved working in his yard and his garden. His grass was like a golf course and he grew the best cucumbers and tomatoes. He always had to have his feeders full to feed the birds and squirrels. Don loved to make beef jerky, pickled eggs, pickled weenies, and 'bull nuts" for his family, and "Sunday Funday" watching football with everyone was his favorite day of the week.
If you have ever been to Don's house, then you have seen "The Shed", that's today's version of the "Man Cave". He was so proud of all of his collections from Denver Bronco memorabilia to beer cans and bottles to the old "beer tab" garland. You could stand in there for hours just looking at all the stuff!
Don and his friends used to bowl and play softball. Every summer you could find Don at City Park in Ft. Collins at the annual 4th of July Old Timers softball game playing with his friends, and of course he would have his old 1949 Chevy pickup truck with a keg of beer in the back to share with everyone after the game before the fireworks. Don was always cracking jokes and having fun.
Don was the last one in his family to die so there was a long line to greet him as he entered the pearly gates: his parents, Emil and Elnora Fisbeck, Wife, Barbara, Sisters, Doris Fisbeck, Lorena Fisbeck, Darlene and Gene Vorce, Gertie and Bud Lewis, Brothers, Herb Fisbeck, Bill Fisbeck, Leo and Elsie Fisbeck, Father in Law, Merle Bennett Sr, Brothers in Law, Merle Bennett Jr, Dale Likens, Sisters in Law, Delfa McFadden, Doris and Paul Groshans, Niece, Cynthia Fisbeck.
