Don Friest, age 76, of Webster City, Iowa, passed away at the University Hospital in Iowa City on Thursday, June 19,2025.
Donald Everett Friest, Jr. was born on August 18, 1948 as the first of two sons born to Donald Everett Friest, Sr. and Margaret (Rush) Friest. He grew up on the farm doing many farm chores at home and for neighboring farmers.
He started school in Garden City in the one room schoolhouse. In the fourth grade he continued his education in Radcliffe. He struggled with vision problems and finished his schooling at the Iowa Federation for the Blind in Des Moines.
Don started a career in Des Moines cleaning commercial businesses. He had to deal with sight issues that were a handicap for him, but he worked through that and built a very successful business, Whisper Clean, with his wife, Jerrie, in Ames. The business grew to where he employed 30-40 people to do the work at commercial businesses.
Don and Jerrie built a modular home on the homeplace to be near his parents in order to care for them when they had health problems. After the passing of Jerrie, he sold the business and moved to Webster City where he continued to work part-time at the Hy-Vee Store there.
Don is remembered by his many cousins and neighbors that he grew up with and the many people he worked with over the years. He is survived by one son Eric. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, Darrell, wife Jerrie and son Rodrego.
