Donald R Gotthardt, Jr, 66, passed away peacefully on Oct 16, 2025, at home with his loving wife on one side and his beloved cat, Boots, on the other.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary F. Gotthardt and Donald R. Gotthardt. Don leaves behind his wife, Anita Jo; stepsons, Cody Hall (Emily) and Logan Hall; a precious grandson, Lincoln, and mother-in-law, Patricia Sutherland. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Don was a devoted husband, step father and friend. He will be remembered for his integrity. Don adhered to strong moral and ethical principles. His inner strength during his illness with the support of his wife, doctors, and friends has been amazing.
He spent 30 plus years in law enforcement, and was always passionate about helping others. Don enjoyed cooking especially for others. He was a special host.
Don always loved being near the water. His dream of living on the water became a reality when he and Anita Jo built a home on the Northern Neck of Virginia.
A Celebration of Life for Don will be held at a date that will be posted here when details are ready. Please check back.

I'm so sad to hear of Don's passing. I met Don back in the early 80's. He was truly a character. My husband worked with Don as an officer at the Arlington County Police Dept. He was a kind and caring person and will be truly missed. RIP friend .
