Obituary for Master Chief Petty Officer Kyle Stephen Hodges
Master Chief Petty Officer Kyle Stephen Hodges, 73, of Warsaw, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 28, 1951, in Princeton, West Virginia, to the late Jacob A. Hodges and Zona V. White Hodges.
Kyle was the devoted husband of Carol Diane Jenkins Hodges for 34 wonderful years. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, faith, and good humor. A kind man and devout Christian, Kyle lived his life with purpose and compassion. He worked closely with The Navigators ministry, where he discipled and mentored many men to Christ, leaving a lasting spiritual legacy that will continue to touch lives for generations.
Kyle proudly served his country for more than 30 years in the United States Navy, retiring with honor as a Master Chief Petty Officer. His distinguished career was marked by dedication, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Throughout his service, he received numerous awards and commendations, including the Navy Commendation Medal (two times), Meritorious Service Medal (two times), and the National Defense Service Medal (two times), among others. After retirement from the United States Navy, Kyle continued to serve his country for 20+ years as a contractor for the United States Government.
Outside of his military and ministry life, Kyle was a man of many interests. He loved being outdoors, fishing, and tinkering on various projects. He especially enjoyed seeing and talking about planes, trains, and ships, and he delighted in sharing that enthusiasm with those around him. Above all, Kyle treasured time spent with his family. He adored his wife, Carol, and was a loving father and "Pop Pop" who found his greatest joy in his children and grandchildren.
Kyle is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Hodges, and their seven children:
* Justin Springer (April) and their sons Andrew, Jordan, Dominic, and Adam
* David Hodges (Brittany) and their daughter Evie
* Lynsie McGeorge (Drew) and their son Landon and daughter Chloe
* Matthew Hodges (Hannah) and their son Luke and daughter Elena
* Mark Hodges (Abbey)
* Sean Hodges (Rachel)
* Julia Prescott (Ryan) and their sons Blaise, Eren, and Miles
He is also survived by his sister Garnet Ervin, brothers Chuck Hodges (Martha) and Doug Hodges (Debbie), and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Kyle was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Zona Hodges, and siblings Sandra Lambert, Sally Fraetis, Mark Hodges, Ben Hodges, Art Hodges, Tim Hodges, Jim Hodges, and Peter Hodges.
A graveside service honoring Kyle's life will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery, 450 Courthouse Road, Princeton, West Virginia.
Additionally, there will be a Celebration of Life held for Kyle on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 8096 Leedstown Road, Colonial Beach, Virginia.
Kyle will be remembered for his faith, kindness, humor, and the steadfast love he shared with his family, friends, and country. His life was a testament to service - to God, to his nation, and to those he loved most.
