Donald S. Grohs, age 91, of Huron, passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025 at Avantara in Huron.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial to follow at St. Martin Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Huron Veteran's Council.

Visitation, with his family present, will be from 5-7 p.m., on Friday, November 14, 2025 at Welter Funeral Home. A scripture service will begin at 6:30 p.m on Friday evening.

Donald S. Grohs was born on March 30, 1934 in Dimock, South Dakota to parents Fredrick T. and Rose M. (Weber) Grohs. He grew up in Wessington Springs, attending Longfellow Country School and graduating from Wessington Springs High School. Don enlisted in the United States Army on January 11, 1955 and was honorably discharged on December 8, 1956.

Don married his childhood sweetheart, Lela Mae Reindl on September 27, 1955 in Wessington Springs. To this union, 8 children were born. Don started his plumbing career with Burnison's Plumbing for 12 years before he and Mae started Grohs Plumbing in 1971.

In their free time, Donald and Mae enjoyed camping and traveling, especially stopping at casinos. They also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Don was a proud member of the American Legion for 69 years. He and Mae were devoted members of St. Martin's and Holy Trinity Catholic Parish for 64 years.

He is survived by his eight children Janet (Jerry) Bockorny of Huron, Keith (Jerolyn) Grohs of Georgetown, TX, Susan (Bruce) SoRelle of Arlington, TX, Terry (Kathy) Grohs of Omaha, NE, Beth Grohs of Huron, Eileen (Gary) Wedel of Mitchell, Kelly (Joan) Grohs of Aberdeen, and Peggy (Kevin) Tschetter of Huron; 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marie Reindl of Wessington Springs, Deloris Fuegen of Wessington Springs, and Leroy (Judy) Grohs of Rapid City; and sister-in-law Donna Satter of Wessington Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse Lela Mae in 2018, brothers Wilfred, Herbert, Victor, Jerome, Ralph, and Paul.
