It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald Lynn Harris, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Donald, a resident of Buchanan, Michigan, departed this life peacefully on August 2, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on October 2, 1938, in Jackson, Michigan, to the late Eugene and Neva (Kliele) Harris, he lived a life rich with creativity, laughter, and love.
A dedicated professional, Donald spent many years as a graphic artist in the energy management sector, contributing his artistic talents to Consumers Energy. Beyond his career, he was an accomplished oil painter, translating his appreciation of nature and beauty onto canvas. An avid golfer and passionate camper, Donald cherished the outdoors and the moments spent with family and friends in nature's embrace.
Donald was a devout Christian whose faith shaped his life and the lives of those around him. He had a remarkable ability to bring joy to any gathering, often sharing his well-timed jokes that left everyone smiling. His warmth and sense of humor will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his loving spouse, Barbara (Sanderson) Harris; his devoted children, Lisa Sawvel (Don), and Craig Harris (Jane); and cherished grandchildren Lindsey (Paul) Wright, Justin (Hannah) Sawvel, and Brooke (Brock) Willey. His legacy also lives on through his great-grandchildren: Owen Wright, Morgan Wright, Michael Sawvel, and Logan Sawvel. He was blessed with many nephews and nieces of whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Gordon Harris (Marjie) and Dianne Taylor (Don).
Funeral services to honor Donald's life will be held on August 10, 2025 at 11:00am, at Niles West-side Seventh-day Adventist Church in Niles, MI. A celebration of his life will include a time for family and friends to gather, share stories, and reflect on the many cherished memories made with Donald. Further details regarding the ceremony will be communicated as arrangements are finalized.
