Donald Herrold Obituary Donald Raymond Herrold born April 26, 1928 went home to Heaven to be with his Savior on February 25, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. Not because he was a good man, but because he placed his faith and trust in Jesus as his Savior. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mae Julia (Grieger) Herrold & his parents Raymond & Lura Herrold, his brother Dan & (Lucille) Herrold, his twin sister Donna & (Martin) Mohler & (Millard) Crisp. Don graduated from Westville High School in 1946 and started farming. He married Mae Grieger November 24, 1952 on her Birthday. They have 4 children: Ronald (Deborah), Mary (Bob Witty deceased) Jane (John Kelly deceased & Mike Neveitt), Henry (Denise), 14 Grandchildren, 28 Great-grandchildren & 5 Great, Great Grandchildren. Don enjoyed farming and loved to improve many things, and was not afraid to try new things on the farm. He resided in Westville in the summertime and Braden Castle Park, Bradenton, FL in the winter. He raised cattle and hogs, corn & soybeans. He hooked two Farmall MDs together to pull a 5 bottom plow instead of a 3 bottom plow. He bought a front wheel assist tractor in 1963, he bought a grain dryer in 1967 moving form ear corn to shell corn, he started irrigating in 1975. He was an excellent welder and could fix most anything. He retired when he was 50 and he and Mae started going to Florida being "snowbirds" in 1978. They became active in shuffle board first in Braden Castle Park and later in the downtown club. Eventually, they went from amateur to Pro status earning many trophies across Florida. Don later started a shuffle court painting business, cleaning, painting and relining many local courts. He helped many neighbors by putting metal roofs and fixing leaks. He loved to play cards, especially Pinochle, Euchre & Bridge. He loved singing in the choir. He attended Manatee United Methodist Church in Bradenton, Florida for many years. He attended Valley Baptist Church in Valparaiso, IN and sometimes he also attended Crossroads Baptist Church in Wanatah, IN in the summer. Don was always friendly and will be missed by many. A Celebration of Life will be held August 3, 2024 at Valley Baptist Church, 255 Cr 325 E. Valparaiso at 11:00 am service time. Burial was in Pinhook Cemetery, Pinhook, IN.
