Donald Lee Holmes, 75, of Walkerton, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at his home.
He was born on March 20, 1950, in Huntington, Indiana, to Oved Earl and Melba Lee Holmes.
Donald worked for many years in the Steel Mill and later on for Roll Coater. He also worked in construction and enjoyed woodworking. Donald also enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a Harley fan. Donald was proudly sober for 38 years and was a member of the YANA Club. He also loved to fish, play pool, bowling, hunting and gaming. Donald had a passion for training dogs, especially German Shepherds. He was greatly loved by friends and family and he will be truly missed.
He is survived by his daughters, Leanne Holmes and Teresa (John) Disse; his son, Robert (Ashley) Holmes; grandchildren, Brittney Mangold , Jeremy Creech, Olivia Carney, Morgan Holmes, Isabella Holmes, Ethan Holmes, Levi Holmes, Ashley (Travis) Knight, Jamie (Jake) Lawrence, Serena Holmes, Heather Disse, and Matthew Disse; Great grandchildren, Aubrey, Carson, Krew, Paris, Mason, Alice, Jackson, Chelsey, Liam, Valencia, TJ, Riley and Remi; Sister, Pamela Holmes; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Sam.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jason Holmes; brother, Robert Holmes; sister, Sharon Bennett.
Cremation has been chosen. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave, La Porte, (219) 362-3333. Burial will take place at Olive Chapel Cemetery.
