Donald E. Horton, 96, of Plantsville and longtime resident of Madison, CT, beloved husband of the late Maria Cristina (Perez) Horton, passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Born in Passaic, NJ on July 9, 1929, son to the late Nelson E. and Frances (Donovan) Horton.

Raised in Virginia, Donald attended Washington & Lee High School graduating in 1947. He continued his education at Norwich University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1951. After college, Donald was called to service with the US Army in 1955. After 24 months of duty, he was honorably discharged to the US Army Reserves for an additional two years of service. He was sent to Sicily for work, where he met his wife Cristina in the lab. In 1964 they were married and moved to the United States, where Cristina became a US citizen, and they started their family.

Donald continued his career as a Chemist and prior to retirement in 1992, he dedicated over 40 years to several companies including Chesebrough Ponds, International Cyanamid and Unilever.

Donald resided in Madison, CT for 47 years, while there he was a parishioner of St. Margaret church and enjoyed the town in general. In his free time and into retirement he enjoyed stamp collecting, coin collecting and researching family genealogy.

Donald will be dearly missed by his two daughters, Jennifer H. Bernaiche of Plantsville, CT and Melissa A. and husband Daniel Pantalena of Southington, CT; granddaughters, Elsie and husband Yoni Kaplan of Modi'in-Maccabim-Re'ut, Israel, Deven Bernaiche of Cheshire, CT, and Tressa Pantalena of Southington, CT. Predeceased by both parents, Nelson and Frances Horton as well as his loving wife, Maria Cristina Horton.

A Graveside Service has been planned for Saturday, September 27, 2025, 10:00AM at West Cemetery, Boston Post Road, Madison, CT.

Donald was a deeply patriotic man who loved his country and served it with pride. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Bridge to Tunnels, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
