Donald Jerry Huso, 78, passed away peacefully in his home in Finley, ND, on June 22, 2024.
Born on November 25, 1945, in St. Vincent, MN, to Alvin “Phil” Huso and Dorothy (Finney) Huso, Don lived a life dedicated to community and public service. He attended school in Sherbrooke and Finley, graduating from Finley Public High School in 1964. On September 18, 1965, he married Denise Wendlick, beginning 59 years together.
In 1979, Don moved his family to Beach, ND, where he began a distinguished career in law enforcement. His dedication and commitment led him to serve as a Sheriff and Chief of Police in various towns across North Dakota, culminating with his retirement as Deputy Sheriff of Steele County in 2012. Even after retirement, his passion for law enforcement and helping those in need never waned. Don continued to serve his county in various capacities, always driven by his unwavering commitment to his community. He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to public service and his significant contributions to the communities he served. His legacy is one of integrity, commitment, and a tireless spirit in helping others.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin “Phil” and Dorothy Huso; his brothers, Gary and Dean Huso; and his sister, Diane Archer.
He is survived by his wife, Denise (Wendlick) Huso; his sons, Jason (April) Huso and James (Karen) Huso; his cherished grandchildren, Corbin Stolt, Conner Stolt, and Zander Huso; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Don's life will be held at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at the Finley Lutheran Church. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the Finley Lutheran Church.
Don will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His legacy of selfless service will continue to inspire and guide those he leaves behind.
