Donald F. "Dooley" Insley, Sr., 86, a lifelong resident of Tyaskin, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on July 6, 2025. Born on January 18, 1939, Dooley was known for his unwavering dedication to his family, his country and his community.
A proud veteran, Dooley served in the National Guard and built his life as both a farmer and a waterman - a testament to his strong work ethic and deep connection to Maryland's land and waterways. He was a cherished husband to his wife of 65 years, Shirley and a loving father to Dawn Carey and her husband, Art, Duane Insley, JR Insley and his wife, Denise.
He adored his family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were the "apple of his eye". He is survived by Gabe Carey and his wife, Victoria Song, Grace Carey, Josh Insley and his wife, Sam, Jessie, Hannah and Adam Insley, Stephen and Alyssa Ewing and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Brody and Blake Insley. He is also survived by siblings, James "Jimmy" Insley (Linda), Peggy Downes and Linda Pike (Julian) and plenty of nieces and nephews that he treated as his own.
Preceded in death by his precious daughter, Cheryl Ann, his parents, Hilda and Clifford Insley, siblings, Hilda Blanch Baker, Mary Jane Adkins, Catherine Booker, Helen Darby and Clifford "Jr." Insley, Jr., and Harry "Butchie" Insley.
He was a man of true grit, integrity, kindness, and generosity. He left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 1pm at West Side Fire Department, 21045 Nanticoke Rd, Bivalve, MD 21814.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Westside Ministries 20485 Nanticoke Rd. Nanticoke, MD 21840, as he was a lifelong member and loved the church Jesus built.
