Donald Ishee Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson Funeral Home on Mar. 5, 2026.
Donald Eugene Ishee passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on March 5th, 2026, at David Simpson Hospice House. He was born on June 26th, 1937, in Ft. Knox, Kentucky to the late Vaughn and Mary (nee: Stanfield) Ishee.

After completing his education, he dedicated his life to enriching the minds of young people as a teacher and a coach in Willoughby-Eastlake. After retiring in 1987, Don enjoyed being a landlord and was beloved and respected by his tenants due to his fairness and kindness.

Family was the cornerstone of Don's life. He was a proud family man who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. His enthusiasm for life's simple pleasures was contagious, and he was never happier than when sharing experiences with his family.

He was known for his unwavering support of The Ohio State Buckeyes, often seen sporting "crimson and grey." Don also enjoyed bowling with his teacher's league, his wife and kids, and could often be seen smiling when fishing with his sons and grandsons.

Don is survived by his wife, Janene (nee: Dobbins) Ishee; children, Todd (Tracy) Ishee, Kaye (Jason) Straight, Jon (Deanne) Ishee, and Gail Myers; grandchildren, Luke, Lila, Trevor, Lexi, T.J., Hazel, Sea, Ireland, Afton; great grandchildren, Shepard, Frasier, and Leslie; sister, Sondra Curtin; nephews, Michael, Greg, Tommy, and Chris; sisters-in-law, Carol (Linda Hale) Dobbins, Lynn Ritenour; and former spouse and friend, Nancy Baxter and her sister, Ellen.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his aunt, Bette Eberhard.

Friends will be received on Saturday, March 7, 2026 from 2:00PM until the service at 3:00pm at Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Ave., Painesville, Ohio 44077. Please join the family in honoring Don's passion by wearing your Ohio State gear.

The family will hold a graveside service on Monday, March 9, 2026 at 11:00am at Middlefield Cemetery.
