Donald "Don" Louis Johnson, 88, of Dixon, IL, passed away peacefully with his daughter by his side holding his hand on Monday, May 26, 2025.
Don was born on November 10, 1936, in Dixon, the son of Benjamin Johnson and Elizabeth (Jacobs) Johnson Cox.
He was in the Army National Guard for eight years and was a barber for 50 years in downtown Dixon. He strongly loved his daughter and grandson, and later on his granddaughter-in-law and three great-grandchildren. He loved all sports, but his favorite team was the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was a lifelong member of the Dixon Evening Lions Club. He was an avid reader, loved to walk outside, and walked the entire Hennepin Canal. In his prime years, he spent time fishing, hunting, hiking, photographing, bowling, golfing, restoring trunks, and repairing Schwinn bikes. He was an avid collector of all things he found at flea markets and garage sales. He loved his 40-gallon aquarium.
He was survived by his only daughter, Dawn (Tom) Kanzler; only grandson, Bryan (Kristin) Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Soren, Huxten and Liana Johnson; and one brother, Dennis (Celina) Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin; mother, Elizabeth; half-sister, Gladys McCann; and half-brother, Vernon "Bud" Johnson.
A Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 am on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Preston Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon, with Pastor Bunyan Cocoar, officiating. Burial will be to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
