Donald Eugene "Gene" Johnson

In loving memory of Donald Eugene "Gene" Johnson Donald Eugene Johnson, fondly known as Gene, a devoted husband, father and cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully at his home on March 13, 2025, at the age of 91.
Born in Ohio, Gene led a remarkable life defined by service, love and adventure. At an early age, he joined the United States Navy, where he traveled the world in service to his country. During his time in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Carol. Following his honorable service, Gene and Carol married, building a family and a life together that would span more than seven decades.
Gene transitioned into a career in public service, joining the Baltimore City Police Department, where he dedicated himself to protecting and serving his community until his retirement in 1983. A man of integrity and quiet strength, he left an enduring legacy of kindness, love and family.
Gene found immense joy in life's simplest pleasures. An avid outdoorsman, he embraced the adventures of fishing, hunting and gardening. He was known for sharing his passions with family, teaching his children and loved ones how to swim, water ski, hunt and garden. His warmth and playful spirit were evident in his sense of humor – many will fondly recall being on the receiving end of one of his legendary pranks, accompanied by his unmistakable infectious laughter letting you know "he gotcha".
Above all, Gene's devotion to his beloved wife, Carol, was unparalleled. Their extraordinary 71-year marriage fostered a beautiful, growing family, including their children: Donald (Stacy) Johnson, Sharon Fincher, Glenn Johnson, Brenda (Gary) James, and Mary Beth (Mel) Cole. Their love extended to their grandchildren – Jacob, Michelle, Jennifer, GaryLee, Christopher, Jessica and Jonathan – as well as nine great-grandchildren.
Gene's passing leaves a profound void, yet his memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him. As his family and friends take comfort in the thought of his joyful reunion with loved ones who have gone before him, we hold close the promise that we will see him again one day.
