Donald Kehl Obituary

Don was a retired employee of Potlatch in Brainerd with 34 years of service. He was U.S Air Force veteran. Don was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby and the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post #557 of Deerwood.
Survivors include one son, Thomas Kehl of Aitkin; one sister, Shirley Davies of Aitkin; two grandchildren, Anthony Kehl of Barnesville and Chassidy Kehl of Brainerd; and three great grandchildren.
Preceding Don in death are his parents; his wife, JoAnn in 2018; son, Scott Kehl; one sister, Eleanor Johnson and two brothers, Robert and Willard Kehl.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crosby with full military honors presented by the Walter Scott Erickson American Legion Post. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Nordland Township. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.

Crosby Minnesota summers are short, but evenings on Donny and JoAnn´s deck were always worth savoring. We´d sit around the table, talking about history, politics, and a bit of philosophy, with plenty of laughs in between. Most nights, we stayed until the flies started biting at dusk or the motion light flicked on-our unspoken cue to call it a night. Their energy and enthusiasm will always linger, a presence that will always inspire.

At the Atkin County Fair in July 2014. we were there to see the Chmielewski's polka music band. I suggested that the two of them get up and polka, to which Donny said "Ya sure." Joanne had such a special energy and was always so good with the funny humorous replies.

God, in the end, calls us all home. Donny and I talked about this particular issue freely for over a decade. Donny was a prayerful man and always viewed himself, Joanne as well, as subservient and humble in Jesus' sight. The two of them are what should be recognized as the passing of our local, extraordinary, regular folk. I feel very blessed to have been in their audience for as many years as God granted us.
